No-exam life insurance

An overview of which applicants are eligible, how the fast-track process works, and what happens when you do need a medical exam.

Several carriers now use accelerated underwriting: within specific age and coverage windows, they make decisions from your application answers, prescription records, driving history and other data on file, without a paramedical exam. Decisions can arrive within hours. Each quote here indicates whether the carrier expects an exam, might need one, or does not require it.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting still means underwriting. The carrier verifies your answers against records and public data, and a policy written based on false information can be denied within the first two years. If the carrier's checks turn up concerns, they may request an exam or blood work anyway; at that point you can choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Usually, applicants in their 20s through mid-50s, requesting coverage under the carrier's fast-track ceiling, with no serious medical history and no tobacco use for the past year or longer, are eligible. A few carriers will use recent doctor-ordered lab work instead of a paramedical exam.

An exam typically takes 20 to 30 minutes at your home or workplace in the Adelanto area, at no cost, and a paramedical technician performs it. Strong exam results often improve your rate class if you are healthy, so it is not necessarily unwelcome news.
